Five star hotel discounting

It appears that www.asiatravel.com is offering a so-called %26#39;Crazy Rate%26#39; of US$80 per night for a five star hotel in Metro Manila (Makati) that I suspect is the Mandarin Oriental. This is far lower than the normal rate that most Internet travel booking sites charge for this hotel and indicative of discounting.

It has been on offer under this Internet site%26#39;s Phillipines page (refer to Manila hotels listed) for at least two weeks.

I have read elsewhere about hotel occupancies naturally dropping somewhat, by an initial two opr three per cent across all price categories, due to the global financial crisis.

Is anyone aware of five-star hotels in Manila bay/ Ermita, Makati, Cebu or Davao offering %26#39;walk in%26#39; rates that are as low or lower than US$80?

Are these cheap walk-in rates available more on weekdays or weekends?

  • Teeth Cleaning in Makati?

Is there a good place to have teeth cleaned in Makati?

    Is it safe?

    What are the prices?

    Teeth Cleaning in Makati?

Most rates for dental services are 20% of what they would be in Guam. I use an ex-pat place in Ayala Mall (Makati) on the fourth floor above Mercury Drug. It is a bit pricier, but they know me.

You can get dental services at many places, however, and if it is just for simple, basic cleaning, you can go anywhere and be satisfied.

    Of course it is safe!

    Teeth Cleaning in Makati?

Thanks...did not mean anything against the safety...just was told there are lots of dental clinics in the Malls ...a new concept for me.

I go to Dr Andre R Javison, whose surgery is 50 metres from Taft LRT station (elevated metro-style railway).

His phone number is (+ 63) 929 311 8070. If dailling from within Manila, you need an extra %26#39;0%26#39; before the 929.

His address is Second Fllor, Saver%26#39;s Square Building, 245 - 247 EDSA Extension, Pasay City.

He charges about P1500 for a scale and clean and does an amazingly thorough job. I have also had six crowns done for about P65000 which is about a sixth of the price in Australia.

I have had no problems 18 months on with this dental work, so I assume his work is first class.

    Advice on sightseeing on foot

    Hi ALan,

    Thanks for your advice.

    On the map following places seems quite close;

Casa Gorordo Museum, Heritage of Cebu, Cebu Archdiocesan Museum, Basilica de Sto Nino, City Hall PNB, Carbon Market

    I%26#39;ll stay in Mactan Island. The hotel has shuttle to Ayala and SM malls. Can I take a taxi from Ayala Mall to Casa Gorordo Museum, then on foot taking following route;

    Casa Gorordo Museum

    |

    v

    Heritage of Cebu

    |

    v

    Cebu Archdiocesan Museum

    |

    v

    Basilica de Sto Nino

    |

    v

    City Hall PNB

    |

    v

    Carbon Market

From Carbon Market take a taxi back to SM. How long shall it take for the complete foot journey?

Where is Taoist temple? How to go there? Any suggestion to rearrange my route visiting those places. Visiting the malls is only for shopping nothing else. Thanks in advance.

    B.Regards

    satimis

    hello satimis

    Route sounds good.

Yes you can take taxi from mall to casa gorordo museum, it will take you around four hours for your trip depending on how long you stay at each stop. Maybe check out Magellans Cross, becuase you will be close by.

Yes take taxi back to mall from Carbon Market, if you want cheap mall then i suggest the ayala mall, also be careful at carbon market there are alot of pick pockets there.

The Taoist Temple is located in the Beverly Hills Subdivision in Lahug, it will take you around 15 to 20 minute depending on traffic.

Hope this helps take care and have fun.

    Alan

    Hi Alan,

    Thanks for your further advice.

I%26#39;ll end my walking trip at Magellan%26#39;s Cross and take a taxi back to either Ayala or SM. Actually I%26#39;m not very interested on the Carbon Market. Nor I%26#39;ll stay too long on each place just taking a few shots and visiting around. What will be the total walking distance in term of time (i.e. how long to finish the whole trip to Magellan%26#39;s Cross if without stopping). Besides where shall I add Taoist temple? Thanks

    B.R.

    Satimis

Well the whole time if you don%26#39;t stop long maybe about 2 hours, If you do this in the morning and then go to taoist in the afternoon. One thing to is to make sure the places you want to go are open, becuase somtimes they are not for no reason. If you want help while you are there, i can contact my wife and she can help you. They will help you for a small fee.

    Hope this hepls.

    Alan

    Hi Alan,

Thanks for your advice and kind offer.

2 hour walking is NOT a long trip. If some places closed I just pass by. Sightseeing is not my main purpose visiting Cebu City. It just satisfies my curiosity. I suppose the style of the buildings to be visited and the culture there were derived from Spain. I have visited many magnificent Spanish buildings in Madrid and Barcelona, Spain, in the past.

I%26#39;ll take a taxi from Ayala or SM to Casa Gorordo Museum which is at the junction of Ballesteros and L. Jaena and behind A.Bonifacio. From there I can go to Heritage of Cebu on foot. Afterwards I just follow Mabini (south) and it%26#39;ll brings me to Magellan%26#39;s Cross. The later is on MAGALLANES. Going further on Mabini (south) / P.Burgos I%26#39;ll arrive City Hall PNB. Are City Hall PNB and City Hall Cebu the same? I can%26#39;t find the former on Internet but only the later.

    I also find the jeepney routes;

    03Q

AYALA - SM AYALA - JUAN LUNA - SM - JUAN LUNA - AYALA (I think this is a circulating route between Ayala Mall and SM Mall)

    12G

LABANGON - COLON - SM (MAGALLANES)

    SM - RECLA - PIER 4 - T PADILLA - MJ CUENCO - BONIFACIO

(Bonifacio is behind Casa Gorordo Museum. Getting in a jeepney on Magallanes it will bring me to SM Mall)

    01I PRIVATE - COLON - PIER - SM - AYALA SM - AYALA - AYALA ACCESS ROAD - HIPPODROMO - MJ CUENCO - BONIFACIO - SANCIANGKO

If having not much cash in pocket I may try a jeepney ride to satisfy my curiosity, most likely between SM and Ayala on 03Q, a short route.

From Magellan%26#39;s Cross or City Hall PNB (depending on time) I%26#39;ll take a taxi to Taoist Temple to see Cebu City on hill. Afterwards I%26#39;ll go to either SM or Ayala Mall for lunch. I expect getting back to hotel at about 4:30 pm to enjoy beach and sunshine.

I saw the movie of SM and Ayala on ';youtube';. There are many shops. Are they selling same merchandise of equal quality. OR shops in Ayala selling goods for price and SM for quality? Are the price there marked without bargaining? OR the price is subject to heavy negotiation like countries in Middle East or Arab countries? I have to counter off at 10% of the price being asked at start? If I don%26#39;t play this game they will feel guilty.

    B.R.

    satimis

    satimis

Sounds good route. The prices at ayala mall are better than sm and the prices at the mall are set so you can%26#39;t try and get it cheaper, but if you want souvinors then look for the little shops close to city hall.

    Have fun

Two Seasons vs Fridays vs Waling

Hi folks. Currently deciding on accomodation within the Station 1 area. Wll be stating for 5 nights in Boracay with my wife for a relaxing holiday. I%26#39;m tossing up between Two Seasons, Fridays and Waling Waling. As I understand it, these three resorts are all walking distance from each other, with the newest one among the three being Two Seasons. Appreciating that everyone looks for different criterias when booking a resort, I figured I%26#39;d share what we%26#39;re looking for:

    1. Cleanliness of the rooms

    2. Service

    3. Value for money

    4. Relaxed atmosphere, by that I mean availability of lounge chairs at the front of the resort :-)

Although highly recommended for their service, I%26#39;ve read a few negative comments about Fridays i.e. cleanliness of the rooms, bird droppings...etc. which has prompted me to look at other resorts.

As far as value for money, I heard Waling is pretty good, and a I guess Two Seasons comes in between offering new contemporary rooms available within the smallish lot on the beach.

    Any tips appreciated. Thanks!

Two Seasons vs Fridays vs Waling

i can vouch for waling-waling, it has everything that you need. it%26#39;s also walking distance to d%26#39;mall where all the restaurants are. friday%26#39;s is too far away IMO.

waling has big rooms but they are not very new, service is great.

Two Seasons vs Fridays vs Waling

Fridays had some problems ith the old rooms, but in the meantime they are renovated. Fridays is a very nice place and fulfills all your conditions above. The same for Two Seasons, which has rather modern design, while Fridays has rather tropical-Boracay design. All of these places are quite expensive and for that money I rather stay at Fridays or Two Seasons.

Thanks for the tips guys. Has anyone stayed at Waling Waling who can comment on the quality and difference between their Deluxe Room and Premiere Suite? If we do stay at Waling, I wonder whether its worth upgrading to the best room they have?

Hey Bura, are you saying Fridays have renovated rooms as an alternative to the old ones?

    Hi yojimbo...

My fiancée and I stayed at Friday%26#39;s for 12 nights at the end of August 2008. During that time we saw the inside of three rooms, and they were all very nice.

We noticed that they were renovating two rooms that are located near the steps that lead to the gate. I think that these two rooms would be classified as Premiere rooms due to their location.

Friday%26#39;s also started renovating their kitchen just after we left.

Judging by the reviews that we read here on Trip Advisor, Friday%26#39;s must have at least a room or two which need renovation. If that is true, I don%26#39;t know why the management would rent them out, as that would harm the resort%26#39;s reputation.

We never spoke with any of the guests who had any issues with their rooms. However, during the time that we were there, Friday%26#39;s was only half booked or so. Maybe when they are fully booked they end up renting rooms which need renovation.

Overall, Friday%26#39;s keeps their property spotless. They even keep their stretch of beach clean and well-groomed.

Their beach lounging area is very well situated too. We liked it better than any of the others on that stretch of beach. It is located away from the traffic area on the beach...very relaxing.

Have a great holiday in Boracay!

Hi Yojimbo! i just wanted to share that i had the same predicament as yours before i finally made confirmed booking at Waling-Waling this April..:) and in fact really zeroed in on those 3 resorts only before deciding.

I would really loved to stay at FRIDAYS for their awesome beachfront and lounge chairs but very pricey for my budget..:) WALING -WALING is next best for me, for its CABANAS,(style and privacy).. in a prime beachfront as well..with a very reasonable rate package at that..i was considering TWO SEASONS before Waling...due to its modern-look rooms, ...but then when i take a closer look at their beachfront area / and their version of Cabanas...imo, its too CRAMPED... So for now...its Waling-Waling for me...as we would be staying less in our room anyway and hangout at the beach and enjoy the view from the Cabanas :)

well, i hope i was able to share some insights to you! Can%26#39;t wait for summer........:) Enjoy!

thanks for all your tips guys, appreciate the feedback.

the other option i was thinking, just to throw it out there was to stay at pearl of pacific in their beach front rooms. how does this compare to waling waling?

lastly, how far is the walk from fridays back to d%26#39;mall?

apologies for the many questions. thanks in advance.

    Hi yojimbo...

    Friday%26#39;s to D%26#39;Mall:

    %26gt; Walking time = 15 minutes

    %26gt; Strolling time = 25 minutes

    %26gt; Our time = 35+ minutes

These times are simply guesses, as my fiancee and I did not wear watches. We found that we were never in a hurry when we were on island, especially when we were on Boracay%26#39;s awesome White Beach.

There were times when we spent up to two hours going to D%26#39;Mall, or meandering home from there. We found that we were really very good at being busy doing nothing while we were on the beach.

Every time we went by Willy%26#39;s Rock, we were fascinated by it, and stopped to take photos.

We enjoyed watching the locals dig for white worms, which they eat raw while they drink beer.

During the late afternoon, the locals start building amazing sandcastles. At night, the sandcastles are candlelit. For a mere 20 pesos, the locals will take photos of you standing in front of their sandcastle.

There always seems to be a volleyball game going on.

There is no better place to enjoy a beautiful Filipino sunset than from the beach.

We also enjoyed assessing each hotel and property as we strolled by it.

yojimbo...the walk is not very far. After a day or two on the island, I doubt if you%26#39;ll even notice time and distance. We sure didn%26#39;t. Enjoy.

    ~ pangga

thanks jim_pangga for the great info!

from what i understand, based on the maps i%26#39;ve seen online, the walk from fridays back to station 1 will be on the beach, as the %26#39;beach street%26#39; doesn%26#39;t extend all the way to fridays, correct?

i%26#39;m just wonderng what to expect walking back to fridays on late nights after having drinner and drinks from other establishments closer to station 1/2.

    thanks again!

    Hi yojimbo...

You are correct. The path that parallels the beach does not extend all the way to Friday%26#39;s. The path disappears somewhere between Station 1 and Station 2. Even if it did extend all the way to Friday%26#39;s, you would find yourself walking along the beach instead. Why take the beach path when you can walk on the beach itself?

We nearly always walked on the beach rather than the path. We also enjoyed walking on the beach at night, and we always felt safe doing so. There will be other people out strolling. It%26#39;s really the best way to go to and from D%26#39;Mall (and beyond).

It is very easy to get sidetracked while you are strolling along the beach. There are any number of beachfront restaurants and bars where you will be tempted to stop in for a bite of food or the cold drink of your choice.

The beach is the way to go.

    It%26#39;s paradise.

Puerto Pension or Audissie Pension or Casa Linda

    Hi everyone,

I%26#39;ll be visiting Palawan this this coming March. I%26#39;m choosing between three pension houses: Puerto Pension, Audissie Pension and Casa Linda.

Putting price aside (since their rates are in the same range), which would you recommend in terms of overall value? Like room ambiance, view, service, cleanliness, extra perks, food, distance, etc.

Your inputs will be highly appreciated.

    Thank you!

Puerto Pension or Audissie Pension or Casa Linda

hi! my family and i stayed at puerto pension for 5d4n last september 2006. they actually have a website but i can%26#39;t seem to find it right now. anyway, i was really surprised at how good the ambience and overall design of the place were. the rooms and balconies are native-style but not the rustic-native type. the place is actually very clean and polished. although the rooms were not very big, the little details like lamps, shell curtains, balcony tables and high chairs are beautiful and well-coordinated. from the balcony of the rooms in the upper floor, there%26#39;s actually a view of the bay. but their roofdeck restaurant is the best. 180-degree view of the bay, good seats/tables, beautiful room decor. perfect place to watch the sunrise/sunset.

with regards to food, service and distance: the food is ok but if you want more choices, just take a trike to rizal avenue where all the restaurants are. the hotel is just a block away (or two blocks?) from rizal ave. which means it%26#39;s very much within the center of things. service is great, the hotel staff is very warm and accomodating.

before we checked into puerto pension, i actually checked out audissie%26#39;s rooms first. although a room in puerto pension is more expensive by around P150, the overall ambiance and design of puerto pension won me over.=)

Puerto Pension or Audissie Pension or Casa Linda

www.pal-onl.com/pension is the website for Puerto Pension, and I will also be trying out this pension house during my March trip.

Why bother choosing between those 3 pension houses while theres a lot of pensions; inns in palawan than those 3. Actually there are several newly built and same price as those. Just take a look of the list of accomodations for palawan Inns; Bed and breakfast ull see a lot of choices. those 3 inns have different prices; accomodation and location. Take a look at the list youll find more.

Well for me all these 3 are ok. Audissie and Puerto Pension are located on the same street and close to each other while casa linda is in rizal avenue. Its up to u,

For me its either Casa lina or its near neighbour Pagdyon Inn.

Prices are similar, but the location is much better. They just 2 mins walk away from some of the best restaurants in town such as Kinabutz, Kahlui, and Semendolia. All of which offer excellent seafood at very reasonable prices.

Puerto Princessa is a very small town, it%26#39;s very easy to get around either by walking or tricycle taxi, the harder part is finding food that is prepared to a standard rather than to the cheapest price possible, unless of course you want local burgers with rice.

Unfortunately Puerto does lack good beaches nearby, you will need to travel north for the best beaches. Sabang, Port Barton and El Nido are top of the list - you can take a day trip to the islands in Honda Bay, good for swimming and snorkelling, but no other tourist facilities unless you wish to stay at Dos Palmos - very high-end.

I was in palawan for sometime and theres so many accomodations i found. There are lots of places to go also. Whatever inn you choose is ok since palawan is a small town and everything is near to each other Theres so many pension houses and inn in palawan. . And if u want to go on a tour u can ride public transportation going to the beach or go wherever u want. You can also check other inns and hotels theres a lot more to choose from.

    hello sansai,

would like to ask if you the contact number or email address of casa linda and other pension house or inn in palawan? coz my friends and i are planning to go there on december.

    thanks in advance.

Lagen is more modern/contemporary in feel and design. Miniloc is more traditional and ';rural';. Miniloc also has a small beach while Lagen does not. But there%26#39;s a pool in Lagen.

  • Boracay Beach Destruction by DPWH

The Dept. of Public Works and Highways is planning a 8 meter wide concrete highway along the full length of Bulabog Beach, including the next bay, which will return to the main road along Kingfisher Farm road. They plan to build it right on the beach with a sea wall to protect the road, thus completely destroying the existing white sand beach, which has over the last few years become very popular with kite-boarders, and in the so-called off season, with all types of water sports.

Their reason for this stupidity is to overcome the traffic congestion on the island, which will in turn allow more vehicles on Boracay.

So just when you think the destruction of Boracay couldn%26#39;t become any worse, especially since the PTA%26#39;s recent ';Storm Water Project'; fiasco and the DENR%26#39;s ';Moratorium on Construction';, which no one has taken any notice of or enforced, along comes the DPWH with their idea to ';protect Boracay';.

    BORACAY RIP

    Boracay Beach Destruction by DPWH

Do you have any documents supporting that and showing this?

We have to stop this. There are already more than three beaches destroyed: Manoc Manoc; Cagban, small beach in Yapak, Punta Bunga and now Bulabug

    Boracay Beach Destruction by DPWH

This is very worrying Pikiwi. Is this plan to destroy Bulkabog Beach definately going ahead?

Also worrying is the recent drastic loss of sand at Diniwid and Panoly Beach. Even around the area of Willy%26#39;s Rock I noticed recently that the beach is only a few meters wide at high tide.

    %26lt;%26lt;Their reason for this stupidity is to overcome the traffic congestion on the island%26gt;%26gt;

If they are so worried, they could start by refusing to allow so many new vehicles onto the island.

There are so many more vans and even cars here now. It is ridiculous to allow individuals to own cars on such a small island, to say nothing of unnecessary.

Today a gang of surveyors were active along the whole length of Bulabog Beach and I had a friendly chat with them about ';what are you doing';! They expained the width of the road (highway...their words), 5 meters wide plus 1.5m either side (footpath?), the position of the road (on the beach?), the sea wall to protect the road(?), etc. ';What about the beach';.....oh, that will be a road, Sir!!! I asked if this was part of the so-called Master Plan but they had no idea. I asked who gave permission for this planned road, and they mentioned that they have yet to discuss the project with the Municipality. But they did mention a guy called ';Ramos'; (DPWH) who could answer my questions better.

    Starting date for the project.....';next year,Sir!';

Yes, this plan is ';a go';......but I don%26#39;t recall any Public Hearings!

A road will not help Boracay, just lots more traffic and tourists.

I know tourism plays a big part, but my last visit February this year, I felt saddened by whats going on, in and around the island.....Plus what I%26#39;ve been reading on this forum. Its also frightening that the changes are coming so rapidly.

    What would help?

I don%26#39;t want to see Borcay become a smaller version of Bali...traffic, pollution, over crowded, corruption, etc

You guys need help now before its too late.

Its true, and I%26#39;m sorry to sound so doom and gloomy.

We all wish that Boracay keeps at least some of its %26#39;magic%26#39; touch. Many wish that and even politicians wish that. The reality, however, is different: Boracay will be witihn 2 years a %26#39;mass-tourism%26#39; destination. While the politicians talk about sustainability and preserving the environment, they want at the same time 1 million tourists witihn the next 2 years. That can only be achieved with mass tourism. And for mass tourism you need infrastrucutre. The focus of the mass-tourism will be the White Beach, while the areas behind will be narrow, dirty and flooded 6-months a year. Bulabug will be sacrificd, as it has already happened in Cagban, Manoc Manoc, etc. There will be high-class hotel-ghettos in Yapak and Manoc Manoc, pardises within high security walls, not accessible for loals and mass-tourists.

The signs are already here: Never ever have so many hotels (from high end to low end) been so empty, never ever have amny shops and restaurnts had so low sales in the summer peak season. Meaning, that a this time now tourists are attracted, which spend as little as possible.

This trend shows itself clearly when you look at tourism receipts: Of 12 billion Peso official tourism receipts on Boracay, 7 + billion Peso are geneated by ~ 240,000 tourists. The rest, around 5 billion Peso are generated by 360,000 tourists and more.

    That speaks for itself

    Tragic and poorly thought out!!!

Unbelievable...NOTICE TO ALL PUBLIC OFFICIALS REGARDING BORACAY DEVELOPMENT....you really need to go further afield and get some planning expertise.

Watching development of Boracay is a little like watching an old Harold Lloyd film.

    Rob

I thought I had posted this earlier today but have not seen it appear so will try again.

Pikiwi%26#39;s post sent me googling around for info. I%26#39;m not sure how (or if) this is connected, but I turned up one pretty silly-looking article from Aklan News Online at aklanon.org/news/boracay-stakeholders-seek-m… headed ';Boracay stakeholders seek MMDA chair’s help in addressing environmental issues';.

    The article is dated Nov 5 (year not mentioned, and says, in part, ';The Boracay Foundation Incorporated (BFI), together with Malay Mayor Ciceron Cawaling asked the assistance of Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA)chairman Bayani Fernando on how to respond to environmental issues in this resort island.';

    The article goes on to say, ';In a press conference, Fernando recommended that the garbage be converted into a bio-gas and “developed into either cooling or warming effects for the community water system in the resort island.” Fernando also suggested that the Sangguniang Bayan craft an ordinance to put up a four-lane 20-meter width road project in Boracay.';

    My gast is flabbered.

Pikiwi: Today a gang of surveyors were active along the whole length of Bulabog Beach and I had a friendly chat with them about ';what are you doing';!

    _______________________________

As a beach lover and a potential visitor to Boracay who also happens to be an Engineer, I couldnt help but feel dismayed at this news. I did a little bit of poking around and found this:

    dpwh.gov.ph/infrastructure/…western.htm

Could the road works be part of the Western Nautical Highways infrastructure plan undertaken by the Department of Public Works and Highways (presumably at the National level)? There is a portion that is labeled %26#39;Kalibo-Caticlan (improved)%26#39;. It looks like the Nautical Highways project has been on-going for a while now. Is master planning also done at the regional level (Western Visayas?) in the Philippines?

Nonetheless, a 5 m wide carriageway is barely wide enough for 2 lanes, could it be a new secondary road (and not a %26#39;highway%26#39; as what we understand the term to usually mean). The 1.5 m %26#39;either side%26#39; is likely a footpath+planting verge within which underground services (water, elect., etc.) can run. What I also don%26#39;t get from Pikiwi%26#39;s chat with the surveyors is the %26#39;sea wall%26#39;. I assume the %26#39;sea wall%26#39; is a proposed retaining wall on the side of the new carriageway closer to the sea, so there will be: (in the following order) the new road, a new boardwalk/grass verge, the retaining wall then a drop to the beach?

Anyway, I can%26#39;t wait to make my first visit to Boracay before it becomes another Pattaya.

    cheapest accomodation in boracay

pls. help me to find who offers the cheapest accomodation in boracay but nice one to suit our budget. we booked already our flight for feb. next month. but we didn%26#39;t still get or booked our accomodation there. hope anyone can help me. thanks!

    cheapest accomodation in boracay

    what budget?

    cheapest accomodation in boracay

Check out the budget accommodation around station 3, particularly in the area of Orchids, Dave%26#39;s, Roy%26#39;s Rendezvous and Moreno%26#39;s. You can search by location and price at www.myboracayguide.com

Edwinic, the budget seems quite clear! Cheapest available accommodation!

Try Ocean Breeze Inn , Roys Rendezvous %26amp; Orchids.

wendy..those are 900-1200 range, are there cheaper than that?

Cheaper than 1200? Of course. Some of the smaller off-beachfront places still have basic rooms for less than 900.

    mayeCebu,

    ..try OceanBreezeInn

Mulligan Hotel @ Fairways & Bluewater Golf Resort

I%26#39;m planning my semi-annual golf trek to Boracay, Metro-Manila %26amp; vicinity and Baguio. I%26#39;ll be in Boracay 1st week of November for the annual Chairman%26#39;s Cup at Fairways %26amp; Bluewater Country Club %26amp; Golf Resort. And on, afterwards... Golf by day and occasional party at White Beach by night.

I%26#39;ve stayed at a regular condo at the resort before during subsequent trips but will try to stay at Mulligan Hotel this time. Is this hotel comparable of better than Fridays? (or vice versa?) I%26#39;ve heard that this hotel is rated 5-star and yet, Fridays%26#39;s is unrated.

Comments and/or feedbacks? I%26#39;ll appreciate it.

    Thanks and enjoy Boracay.....:-)

    Papalo

Mulligan Hotel @ Fairways %26amp; Bluewater Golf Resort

    Bump...

Any of you, ';Boracay Experts';, have any inputs?

....or, you should be classified as ';Lower-end'; or ';Higher-end'; destination experts?

.... Any of you ';experts'; been to this side of the island?

Enjoy Boracay.... even if it%26#39;s in the upper end..:-)

    Papalo

Mulligan Hotel @ Fairways %26amp; Bluewater Golf Resort

    Papalo,

I was wondering how this golf course is? You seem like you have played it before. Do you know how much their green fees are and other related costs? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

If you are comparing the food...i would stay at fridays, Muligans still relys on fairways for its amenities, so if you stayed in a condo there before then you are still eating in the same restauraunt swimming in the same pool etc etc. Did you feel it was a 5 star establishment last visit?

I haven%26#39;t much experience of that place beyond attending a few parties there, which probably wouldn%26#39;t give me much of an idea what the restaurant is like. I%26#39;m not a golfer.

    VsportCanuch420

...I%26#39;ve played the course during the Chairman%26#39;s Cup during the last two years. The cost has always been packaged..flights,transfers, accomodations, tournament fees, and associated events. Expect to pay between 5 to 7k pesos for green fees, both cart %26amp; caddy. Their rates varies among members, guests, staying guests, and their yearly increased. This year%26#39;s rate?...no idea. Rental clubs, if you don%26#39;t have your own equipment is another extra. I have no idea how good of equipment they have for rent. Overall, it%26#39;s worth it to play if you%26#39;re a golf nut/fanatic/addict...etc. like myself. A very interesting %26amp; challenging course.

    OmniAsia,

... I%26#39;m not much into food comparison. I%26#39;m more interested in accomodation. I have not stayed at the hotel...hence, the post on this thread. The website for the hotel seems very impressive which is most likely reflect the true %26amp; real thing. All of Fairways %26amp; Bluewater Resort properties are in the up %26amp; up end living of Boracay, which, IMO, is far above or , at least, par in comparison with the higher end accomodations like Friday%26#39;s, Boracay Beach Club to name a few.

    Sirenna,

...Thanks for your honest reply. You are the only credible Destination expert of Boracay.

    Enjoy Boracay.....:-)

    Papalo

    Papalo,

Thanks for the info. I will definitely be golfing this course to add to my collection along with a few others in the Philippines. Any recommendations? Yes probably like yourself, my clubs go where I go! Cheers!

Thanks for the compliment Papalo, but there is still a lot I don%26#39;t know about in Boracay! It%26#39;s hard to keep track of all the new developments at times, and there are several very helpful and knowlegable people who put in their time on this forum.

    papalo,

...I am a hack golfer at best

...never have stayed at Mulligan Hotel..so did not feel qualified to give an opinion.

..I love the game but have not played in a few years...

...I always like to try new places so I would be inclined to try a new place

...as for the Aria pizza...the post about Andoks was funny because thats where my wifes family wanted to eat

..I opted for Aria and it was the better choice

to each their own I suppose.

..I dont know whether I would consider myself a high end or low end tourist

..I typically am middle-of-the road...but for different reasons...for instance I stay in hotels but have stayed in the squatters areas..fly..but sometimes take local transit..take cabs but love jeepneys...travel with an escort...sometimes alone...like to backpack sometimes but other times rent a vehicle and driver...like the superferry but have travelled on local ferry...and even by local boat

...on one of our second last trip we went to Caribou island and took motorbikes up the mountain to vist the house of our boatman Denis and his family

...I like to visit places but if I just stay in the expensive hotels I never get to experience local places and see how people live

...yes definately middle of the road

hope you have a great trip

    hotel in manila

anyone can recommend good %26amp; cheap hotel in manila?

will be travelling from clark to manila, any advise about

    transportation?.

how much does ti cost to a taxi from clark to the hotel DM?

as the hotel pick up is very expensive, cost PHP500.

    tks...

    hotel in manila

transportation from Clark Airport to Angeles City is 300 Pesos. Although DM Residente is near the Clark area, I%26#39;m sure they will still charge 300.

    hotel in manila

Since you say you%26#39;re traveling from Clark to Manila, you really don%26#39;t have to stay in Angeles City unless you want to see the local night life. You can take the Philtranco or Partas bus straight from the airport to Manila.

The bus station for Angeles is actually in Dau (a neighboring community). It will take about 300 pesos and ten minutes to get there by trike or taxi from Clark. From Dau, you can get a air con bus for about 125 pesos into Manila that takes about two hours. It can drop you in Cubao or Pasay City.

  • Pasig River Ferry; Ideal Cheap Day Tour

Having buzzed over the Pasig River on the MRT Guadalope stop many times and noticing the large, new water taxi at the terminal, I wanted to give it a try. This past weekend, I finally did just that.

From wherever you are in Manila, you can take the MRT to Guadalope Station and walk down to the river from there. It is a five minute walk and the terminal is new and clean. For 45 pesos (roughly $1USD), you can take the ferry all the way to Intramuros. I counted ten stops along the way in that direction. It took about 45 minutes to do the route in that direction.

You can really get a feel for the city from the water. It is a sharp contrast from brand new high rises on one side to grinding poverty and slums on the other. You pass by many massive abandoned old factories, kids swimming in the drink, old men fishing and other boat traffic going up and down the river.

Towards Intramuros, you even pass the Malacanag Palace where the President resides. It is pretty amazing to see just how out in the open and accessible the estate is from the river.

Unfortunately (and in true Filipino fashion), there were no schedule pamphlets available at any of the stations I checked. So here is the station list I cobbled together. I didn%26#39;t make the full route as I got on in Guadaolpe, but I went 80% of the way.

Kalawaan(Pasig)-Bambang- Guadalope (Makati)- Hulo (Makati/Burgos)- Valenzuela- Lambiungan Punta- Sta Ana- PUP/Sta Mesa- Quiapo- Lawton- Escolta- Intramuros.

The ferries leave about ten times a day each way during the week from around 7am to 6pm. Less on weekends. The office gave me these contacts prrc@prrc.com.ph, pasiglahin@yahoo.com.ph, and the information office is (2)926.5232 or (2)882.5734. Apparently, they don%26#39;t have a webpage.

It is a worthwhile way to see Manila for all its glory and blight. Plus, at 45 pesos for the entire route, it is a heck of a bargain and a cool way to kill an afternoon instead of sitting in a taxi in traffic.

How to travel from Boracay to Puerto Princesa

Anyone out there have suggestions on what is the best way to get from Boracay to Puerto Princesa?

How to travel from Boracay to Puerto Princesa

    Bona,

If you are meaning ';best'; as in getting there the quickest and not wasting too much time travelling(ferries). I would suggest taking an airline. We used Philippine Airlines via Caticlan- Manila- Puerto Princessa. You might want to check Cebu Pacific also and see if they have a direct flight from Caticlan. Hope this helps!

How to travel from Boracay to Puerto Princesa

    A) Fly Caticlan - Manila - Puerto Princesa

    B) Fly Caticlan - Cebu - Puerto Princesa

    C) Fly Caticlan - cebu, then with the ship to Puerto Princesa

    D) Fly Caticlan - Manila, then take a ship to Puerto Princesa

    E) RoRo to Iloilo, then ship to Puerto Princesa and if you miss that continue overland Negros - Cebu

    F) Fly Caticlan - Coron and from there take a ship to Puerto Princesa

Where is the best seafood in Boracay? What are the prices? Any buffets?

    Kind Regards Tom

    Seafood

I%26#39;m inclined to avoid all but the best buffets (read ';expensive';) as many of the beachfront buffets offer food that is less than fresh, and has been pawed at by hoards of people before you put it on your plate.

Some restaurants have a display, on ice, outside the dining area so you can pick something out.

Two places I like to eat seafood are Samba%26#39;s (station 1) and Fishbar in the mall.

Yes - have a good look at the fish/seafood.

    Hi Pinoy Travel Junkies!

The annual travel expo in Megamall is close at hand... arm yourself with your calendar, some cash or credit card (they have zero interest on some trips) a half day leave for Feb 9 (im going there in the afternoon but the event is open till the 11th), and some serious impulsiveness (Like why did I buy this ticket or this stay......)

    Enjoy!

    I know I will...

    Malapit na!

    hi juanne

i will miss the travel expo but i would appreciate if you could send me some infos after the events like whats new, travel packages etc..

i will be home on the 21st feb and like to travel around the philippines. trhanks

    Malapit na!

    Hey Juanee!

I do hope to squeeze in a trip to the expo at the Megamall on the 10th. In case you do push through on the 9th, hope you could fill us in on any promos, packages, and must visit booths at the travel expo. (I%26#39;ll check this thread before heading to the expo!)

Just wondering, are you preparing yourself or have you psyched up to pick up any on the spot travel packages there?! LOL

Also, it might be a good idea to repost this topic with the heading in english for our other friends who might be interested to go there too. :)

    hello juanee,

i%26#39;ve never attended this travel expo in Megamall, but your post was so damn interesting i think i have to go see this.

Are they offering travel packages to Asia, Europe %26amp; the US? Do they really give huge discounts? Who sponsors this event? Do they have registration fees to join in the expo? Where is it going to be held inside Megamall?

    Thank you...appreciate your help.

Oh gosh, sorry for the lack of EQ: its suppose to translate as-- Close at Hand!

The Travel Expo, has a minimal entrance fee, has some packages for both here and abroad. It great to take sometime of, but its not as crazy and hot as going to the Doulos in the Pier.

Im hoping to get some idea how in the world to go to bantayan island and some packages for China this July plus anything that catches my fancy (plus having one hand a post it of the supposedly holidays in the Philippines like Aug 21 Heroes Day, Start and End of Ramadan Day (Sorry to the Islamic brothers and sisters but I forgot what day thats called)

Some of the participating airlines have some travel expo only promos ( I remember getting buy one take one SEAIR tickets 2 years ago but they didnt do that last year).

Anyway, I think they have a website of the event which we can google.

Thanks to impulsive traveller for taking note my heading.

    hi,

just got back after a 2 week stay there. great place, certainly the best apartments i have come accross (they are huge) and good value (especially for families} the only downside is they are not on white beach, but thats more than made up for by the stunning views and great pool they have. they also have a reliable shuttle service that can take you to the beach in 5 minutes.

you can try e mail them direct and ask if they have any special rates.

    Feb.9-13 in Puerto Princesa

Hi everyone. 4 of us are going to Puerto Princesa from Feb.9-13. i have some questions, hopefully you can assist me. :)

For the city tour, we%26#39;ll just get a tricycle so that it%26#39;ll be cheaper. How much ang usual rates ng tricycle drivers for the city tour?

For the Honda bay tour, we%26#39;ll just take the tricycle going to the wharf(????) and from there, i understand, there are already small boats? how much do they charge for the Honda bay tour? Is the Snake Island included???

For the Underground river tour, can you suggest a cheap tour for it? Renting a van would be an expensive option, since there%26#39;s only going to be 4 of us. We%26#39;re allotting 1500/pax for it.

And we%26#39;re thinking of staying at Pagdayon inn.... Or, other options are Puerto Pension and Lola itangs. Which is the best in terms of location and price???

Please help me. Or, Anyone familiar with PP can email me at an311_angeles@yahoo.com.

    Thank you so much...

    Feb.9-13 in Puerto Princesa

    Mabuhay and Aloha Ann,

Pagdayon Inn is very nice, and their front desk can answer all your questions about inexpensive tours and how to get them. Another resources is the City Tourism Office official website at www.visitpuertoprincesa.com

you can find rates of different accommodations from hotels/pension/lodging etc. in this website.

You might stop by the City Tourism Airport Annex and ask the staff there about ways to cut costs on tours.

I will look for your comments in a day or two and see if I can help more at that time.

    Gay Boracay

Traveling solo to boracay, Monday 16th to 20th February...Any suggestions about gay scene at bora?

    Gay Boracay

Boracay has a friendly and open gay scene. No specifically gay bars though - everyone hangs out together.

    Gay Boracay

    Boracay please, not Bora!

But which Bar would you recommend as the best place to meet other gay men?

Everywhere. No place dedicated particularly to the gay, lesbian or transvestite scene. There is everything on Boracay: regular, gay, lesbian, transvestite, bi, tri.... Just keep your eyes open and don%26#39;t get too excited....

try the Villa de Oro area...hainaku.

You%26#39;ll want to checkout some of the nicer, more socialite places like Hey Jude and Juice Bar, possibly Ariel%26#39;s Place. These are pretty hip and fashionable places so you%26#39;d expect it anyway.

I cant think of anyplace here that you wouldn%26#39;t feel comfortable in.

Haha, you love stirring the excrement don%26#39;t you Contractor! I though you%26#39;re doing Jammers tacos now instead of Andoks!?

Piatony, as was mentioned before there is no specific gay bar, but if you hang out a Summer Place, Hey Jude %26amp; Juice Bar you probably won%26#39;t be alone for long!

  • Cebu Tour???

    Hey Guys,

Getting closer to the time we visit Cebu in April, on honeymoon, very much looking forward to it, haha.

Anyway, I%26#39;m looking into areas and places that we should go see/visit while we are there, what is the best way to go about it.

I%26#39;m staying at the Shangri La Mactan, I was considering asking them if they can organise a city tour for me but then I was thinking doing it through the hotel might be expensive.

How easy would it be for a first timer in Cebu to get around? Short journeys in taxis from place to place within the city I figure should be ok, but from the Shang to the City, am I likely to get Taxi drivers trying to ';no-meter'; me?

Is there a Jeepney service that passes outside Shang and into the city?

A few spots i%26#39;m looking to see are the Lapu-Lapu Monument but from what I can figure out it%26#39;s walking distance from the hotel so shouldn%26#39;t be a problem.

Into the city, Magellans Cross, Fort San Pedro, Sto. Ni帽o Basilica, the Taoist Temple and the Tops.

I%26#39;m sure my wife would want to go to SM Mall for shopping after that before heading back to the hotel.

So what would ye recommend the best way to do this?

Note, there will only be 2 of us, my wife and myself.

Are some places within walking distance of each other? Should we take Taxi or would Jeepneys be easy enough?

Or would you recommend we try hire a driver/guide? (what kind of rates should we expect?)

    Cheers

    Mokong

    Cebu Tour???

    Hi Mokong

Good chose of hotel I really like it when i stayed there, but exnpensive. To me the best thing would be to hire a drive for the day if you want, somtimes you can make a deal with taxi drivers for the day to. You can walk to Magellans Cross and St. Nino. If you want some good sovuniors look around by city haal there%26#39;s alot of small shops there on some side streets. If you like to walk you can go to Fort San Pedro to but it will talk about half hour.Taoist Temple and Top will take you awhile to get there by car. There is a jeepney route but i don%26#39;t have that right now.I would go to the ayala mall where things are a little cheaper , but same quality. If you need guide i can set it up for you.

  • About airport roads and taxi route

    Hi folks,

    Does Open Airport Rd., Cebu City meet Mactan Airport Rd going through Mactan International Airport underground tunnel? If YES, then om map from SM Mall there 2 routes routes to Maribago Bluewater Beach Resort;

    1)

    J. Luna Ave. Extn. (north) -%26gt; Cebu North Road (east) -%26gt; A.C. Cortes Ave. (south) -%26gt; Mandaue-Mactan Bridge -%26gt; Maximino Patalinjog Jr. Ave -%26gt; Open Airport Rd. -%26gt; (under Mactan International Airport) -%26gt; Mactan Airport Rd. -%26gt; Quezon National Highway (south) -%26gt; Maribago Bluewater Beach Resort

    2)

    J. Luna Ave. Extn. (south) -%26gt; Quano Ave (north) -%26gt; A.C. Cortes Ave. (south) -%26gt; Mandaue-Mactan Bridge -%26gt; Maximino Patalinjog Jr. Ave -%26gt; Open Airport Rd. -%26gt; (under Mactan International Airport) -%26gt; Mactan Airport Rd. -%26gt; Quezon National Highway (south) -%26gt; Maribago Bluewater Beach Resort

Which route will be better to hit the traffic and shorter in distance? Shall I inform the taxi driver in taxi which way I prefer to go? OR he will take the best route not taking a long way for the passenger to look around the whole Cebu City?

The axis are going to take the route they want no matter what you say, becuase if you say you want to go this way, they will say not good or its closed, just so they can get more money. So what ever you say they are going to do what they want.

About airport roads and taxi route

    Hi Alan,

In well organized cities it is against the law if the taxi driver doesn%26#39;t take the shortest route to the destination. Unless he obtains consent from the passenger. The taxi driver will be severely punished to violate the law in obtaining property by deception. It is a criminal offense. Does it happens in Cebu City.

Is the tunnel connecting Open Airport Rd and Mactan Airport Rd open to public? OR only for military use?

    satimis

    Satimis

They don%26#39;t really regulate those kind of laws in cebu and i think the tunnel is only for military use.

Airport: Transfer between T2 and T3

Hi, could someone please advise how quickly a person can transfer between terminals 2 and 3?

What is the fastest way to get from one terminal to another?

    Thanks.

Airport: Transfer between T2 and T3

The fastest, most convenient way is just to get a taxi outside of baggage claim. It will be a few dollars, but you won%26#39;t have to worry. It is relatively close. Maybe ten minutes.

Airport: Transfer between T2 and T3

    Thanks for the info.

if it%26#39;s a connecting flight, you just proceed to the transfer counter inside the terminal for a free transfer via shuttle. the flight attendant normally announces this upon touchdown.

    Tinglayan and guide Francis Pa-In

Does anyone out here have the contact details (cellphone, email, etc) of Francis Pa-In? My husband and I are planning to hire him as our guide around Tinglayan for our upcoming trip this May. Thank you in advance.

    Fairways Resort

Has anyone stayed at the fairways resort?

    What was it like?

    Fairways Resort

    Not near white beach.

    Fairways Resort

    tommomelbourne,

    ..personally I have not

... but if my memory serves me right I think papalo has stayed there and wrote a thread a while back

..will try to search back for it

    Rob

My family stayed at fairways last year. I just forgot which hotel we stayed in. It is not beach front. It%26#39;s actually on the other side of the island. You have to ride a shuttle (that goes around every 20 mins) from Fairways to go to the beach.

Fairways and Blue Water Resort is a villa type resort located at station 2. They offer a shuttle ride free of charge for members of the villa.

I stayed there for three days and 2nites last january 2005 and the experience is very nice because its clean and the staff are very accomodating.

I recommend that you should try staying there also...hope this helps...

where is it really? station 2 or not near white beach - one could be wrong here or both?

Fairways and Blue water is not at station 2. If it was, no shuttle would be necessary!

The resort and golf course is way up past station 1, not near White Beach.

We will spend time in Banawe and Sagada. tks

We are planning to stay around 10 days aorund Banawa Sagada, Mt Pinatubo, San Fernando ( holy friday) and one day to san fernando (beach) before returning to manille

Those San Fernanda beaches- worth the trip ?

We also have ten more days to planned . We are really undecided about goind to Palawan and Mindoro or visit some island in Visayas.

We are not planning to visit southern Luzon, unless ... we change our mind.

We will have to take the plane to cover distance. Their is to much to see in a short period of time. Please help us find a good itinery with very beatifull beaches, beach front restaurant, fun, volcano, river, kayaking, caves, trecking, culture) We want to avoid seing McDonalds as much as we can.

    tks -

do not miss palawan, that%26#39;s for sure. bohol is also pretty famous if you are willing to cut short your northern luzon visit. speaking of northern luzon, pagudpud and ilocos is also famous. don%26#39;t think there%26#39;s anything special in the area of san fernando / pampanga.

    hello!

I suggest you check this blog %26lt;www.ivanhenares.com%26gt; as it has very descriptive coverage of almost all the islands.

It%26#39;ll help you decide which places to go, etc.

If you have the additional ten days then you can mostly cover the highpoints of the Visayas islands. My suggestion is to fly to Cebu, hop over to Bohol, back to Cebu then fly to Iloilo. From Iloilo you can take a bus to Boracay/Caticlan then can fly back to Manila. If you pick an early flight out of Caticlan then you can still fly out to Palawan.

Most of Luzon%26#39;s beaches are volcanic (a.k.a. black sand) and if you prefer white then go to Visayas.

    hope this helps.

In addition to what other posters have suggested, I highly recommend Hundred Islands National Park in Pangasinan province. It is a few hours out of the way between Manila and Banaue, northwest along the coast from Lingayen. You%26#39;ll need to catch a boat or ferry in Lucap -- plan on leaving at dawn and spending the day. Especially on a weekday, you may find some real seclusion. There are at least dozens in not 100 volcanic islands ranging from the size of a toadstool to more than half km. A few have nice beaches with swimming areas. Snorkeling and diving are wonderful -- coral reefs and lots of beautiful fishes. Only a couple of the islands have any services at all -- pack a picnic lunch, and pack out your own trash.

Sorry I don%26#39;t have any name for guides/boats or Lucap hotels -- father-in-law makes the arrangements for us. Suggest you google for more info and photos.

  • Personal safety and security on Mindanao

The UK government has strongly advised against travelling to Mindanao becuase of terrorist actvity.

I hope to go to the Bislig City/Mangnagoy/Butuan area and would welcome any advice or comments. Thank you.

Personal safety and security on Mindanao

The more dangerous areas would be the south of Mindanao, this is where you have all the kidnappings from terrorist groups.

If you are white,, most probably you will stand out and attract attention. I have never been to the places you mentioned except for Butuan. I could say that generally it will be much safer in the bigger cities which welcome a lot of toursts as well.

I think if you are just careful and you make yourself aware of the goings-on around you, it will be wise. That goes to say for other parts of the world too.

Personal safety and security on Mindanao

Yes, there are active terrorists on Mindanao. The MILF and some others but their area of operation is usually confined to the western and southern parts of the island.

They did blow up the airport in Davao but that was years ago.

Just as you could not guarantee nothing bad will happen if we travel to London, we can%26#39;t give you any guarantee that nothing bad will happen if you travel to the eastern end of Mindanao. However, my expectation is that you will complete your journey physically unharmed. Can%26#39;t say about your mental state as you yearn to return as soon as you can!

I have not actually travelled to the cities mentioned. However, I have travelled to Surigao City which is relatvilely close plus many other places on Mindanao such as Ozamiz City, Iligan City, Cagay De Oro and Davao City.

I would be happy to travel to the areas you mentioned. Especially as there is a famous waterfall, whose name escapes me at the moment, in the area near To Bislig City, that I want to visit. Plus I would be happy to travel to all the other places I have travelled to previously.

    Regards; Jim

No problem in those areas. There is some NPA activity in the hinterlands, so don%26#39;t head into the mountains alone, don%26#39;t drink with people carrying guns (there are a couple) and don%26#39;t ride the night bus to Bislig. Really.

But otherwise, the biggest danger is still drinking the water.

The bigger problem, IMHO, is that ';terrorist activity'; often allows simple common criminal acts to increase. So be a bit cautious, exercise situational awareness, and enjoy your trip.

Another thought: As you get closer to travel, check with the Foreign Office for any updates, especially about specific threats. Part of the reason for the broad based warnings is that it is simply not in their interest to have some half-cocked tourist doing stupid things - like getting kidnapped down by the docks. Bad publicity.

But sometimes they do have real information.

If its not urgent, why go there? If you are seeing a female (or male) for romantic reason, then go. Otherwise there are many places where your neck is not at stake. or are you thrilled of the prospect of being beheaded?

HEHEHEHEHE. I think maybe you%26#39;re just trying to scare the foreigners away. Keep the place an unspoiled secret for the rest of us. Come to think of it.....not a bad strategy.

scare? hardly. you cannot scare a determined tourist/individual. all i am saying is its close to action.

there are many places in the philippines that are worth visiting, davao is one. Why take the risk?

In 12 years in the Philippines I%26#39;ve only been caught 1 bomb attack... during a trip to Manila during the rizal day bombings. In Davao and the rest of Mindanao I%26#39;ve had no problems whatsoever. If your willing to travel to Manila, Mindanao should be no problem as long as you are sensible.

    best boracay beachfront hotel/resort

We%26#39;re planning a boracay vacation this Feb. What%26#39;s the best beachfront resort? Is Le Soleil better than Seawind in terms of rooms, location?

    best boracay beachfront hotel/resort

Seawind probably has the edge, and is on a much nicer stretch of the beach.

If I had to pick a personal favourite though, I%26#39;d choose to stay at Fridays, for the location, food and service.

    best boracay beachfront hotel/resort

What about Discovery Shores? I%26#39;ve heard that is the nicest if you%26#39;re looking for higher end.

    Shangri-La is top

    Bura, is shangrila now open?

    There Website says March 2nd..

    shangri-la.com/en/鈥oracayresort

    THEIR Sorry for the typo..

Discovery Shores is luxurious but doesn%26#39;t appeal to all, as it%26#39;s boxy, city style design is at odds with the island cosy ambiance, as well as the thumping music ruining the sunset mood.

And Fridays food is still arguably the best.

The question was Seawind or Le Soleil for exciting beach vacation and the answer is: Seawind with its huge and wide beachfront, the rooms set back more than the required 25 + 5 meters, but 60 meters plus, original Filipino (Visayas)charme and hospitality and as well trnaquility. Le Soleil is also not bad, but rather small and in an area with lots of action, resp. shops, massage, bars, restaurants, etc.

    Palawan Expensive ?

Hotel seems to be very expensive in Palawan and quality average for the price. We have seen a lot of hotels that cost more than 200$ per night( ) . 2-3 stars hotel seem to be tree times more then elsewhere.

We use to travel with a very low budget but this time we want to have nice beachfront room and spend less than 125 $ a day inclunding everything

Do we have a missperception ?

any suggestion for hotel in El Nido, puerto princessa, etc

    Palawan Expensive ?

There are backpacker resorts and high end options in Palawan. What a lot of people don%26#39;t realize is that although Palawan seems to be just a strip of an island in the Philippines, its is subdivided into several areas/municipalities, and your choice of resort would depend on your selection of which area in Palawan.

There%26#39;s an ongoing promo in El Nido (Miniloc) right now for travel to April 04, 2009, that%26#39;s only Php13,000 for 3 days/2nights called the Turtle Tracking Promo. You might want to check it out by emailing them through their website (as I got the promo alert thru email). Doesnt include the airfare though, might want to check other inclusions if its the normal all inclusive package of El Nido. Come to think of it, Php 13,000 for 3 days/2 nights actually is about $270! Might want to check it out! http://www.elnidoresorts.com/

    One helpful site is http://www.palawan.com/

On the left side of their home page is a listing of hotels and resorts divided into about 9 areas. All inclusive packages rarely exists in the smaller hotels though. (Honestly, I can%26#39;t recall having traveled to a beachfront resort in Palawan with a budget lower than $125 per day with an all inclusive package.) But you may still want to look out for promo rates following the links to their websites from the above mentioned site.

The El Nido and Cuyo area would have the more expensive resorts (and some backpacker inns too). So best to make a selection of your area to start with your selection of resorts.

    Palawan Expensive ?

    Thanks for the tips...

Regarding Maniloc promo does that include meals you think? I have seen a similar promo and meals were not included but mandatary so we had to ad 65 US$x 2 x 2 days plus transport from the airport 100$ each end up : 400$ a day for 2颅. which is for me very $$$

We will travel from Puerto P to El nido and spend approx. 6 days if you have accomodation te recommand please let us know

Well, I paid $800 for 3 nights in El Nido Miniloc and I would not begrudge a penny. Admittedly it was 12 years ago the last time I went and it included return airfare %26amp; full board but at the time it seemed reasonable.

You can do the whole thing for a whole lot less if you don`t mind compromising a little and are prepared to sacrifice a little luxury.

Have a browse around sites such as www.travelblog.org to get more of a backpackers perspective and ideas of cheaper deals for trips.

We just returned from El Nido and stayed at Marina Garden Beach Resort for around $40-$45 Canadian per night with Air Con and it was beachfront - we just did our Island hopping from there. It was great!

Where did you stay? Sounds too good to be true.

Never mind I see it is Marina Garden.

Help me to organise a trip to Palawan

My boyfriend and me we need some help in order to organise our dream vacation to Palawan after a very difficult year. We want to visit Palawan in mid February and I wonder how to do it? The flight to El Nido is fully booked on the day I want so should I go to Puerto?

Should I spend 2 or 3 nights in Puerto in order to visit Honda Bay %26amp; Subterrenean River %26amp; then go to El Nido? How can I go to El Nido from Puerto? How long it will take with a car/van? How much it will cost?

Or is it better to go spend a night or 2 to Sabang %26amp; then head up from Sabang to ElNido? How can we go go from Sabang to El Nido? Time? Cost?

We%26#39;ll have 17-18 nights in Philippines %26amp; we also wonder if we%26#39;ll have time to visit another island?

Let%26#39;s say 8-9 nights in Palawan %26amp; the rest to Panay? Or any better sugestions?

Thank you all for your help.

Help me to organise a trip to Palawan

    Hi ruddaaki,

We are considering these options ourselves: to spend a couple of nites in Sabang (Bambua Resort) after doing an afternoon underground river tour and following day, the monkey trail and mangrove tour then leave by early morning next day by boat to El Nido; or

Take the regular shuttle van from Puerto to El Nido, departing san Jose terminal at 7.00 and 11:00 or 13.00h. prebooking necessary at Fortwally Shuttle Company Tel. 63-0920-981-5702. Duration: 6 hrs. Cost: 600 Php.

Note to fellow TAs: please let us know if this research info needs updating. Thanks.

You should have enough time to visit Iloilo, Guimaras and maybe, Boracay.

Help me to organise a trip to Palawan

Mam, You can visit Coron, Palawan and spend like 2-3days here. They have pump boat here in Coron which goes to el nido also. But I dont really know that exact day.

    Thanks for the info.

Do u know how long is the boat from Sabang to El Nido %26amp; how much?

R u going any other place?

Boat from Sabang to El Nido - maybe El Nido Boutique %26amp; Art Cafe can give U an answer to that and they can arrange a boat for U + how much it is, plus arrange ur lodgings, excursions in El Nido, etc. I was checking the weather in Palawan and it shows T-storms probability till end of Jan. which make sea travel rough and there might be no regular boats going out. They say April-May is the best time to visit Palawan and if i`d listened, i would have postponed my trip til then. However, since everything`s booked, I can only hope for good weather.

Or maybe U can leave Palawan at the end of UR trip and pass by Boracay or other places first. There`s a flight to-from Boracay to-from Busuanga.

Oops, I mean (Boracay)Caticlan to Puerto Princesa.

    Mabuhay and Aloha,

This is Ling Yai, the Forum Moderator.

On my first trip to Palawan in 1995 I went to Puerto Princesa, took the bus to Port Barton and hired a banca to go to El Nido and back. I%26#39;m a limestone islands by kayak freak and didn%26#39;t find El Nido very exciting.

On the return, we stopped at Port Barton and kayaked back to Sabang - a wonderful trip with great snorkeling. It’s a long haul I do not recommend for anybody except extreme sea kayakers, but going by banca would be spectacular.

Another tip - go to Coron Island, which has great wreck diving with Guenther at Discovery Divers and go sea kayaking with Rannie Dulay around Coron Island. He does 3-5 day trip that are (IMHO) the best kayaking in the Philippines, with great snorkeling and possible visits with the Tagbanua indigenous people.

There is a ferry that travels both ways between Coron and Puerto Princesa. Rannie%26#39;s email is radulayph@yahoo.com He can tell you the company, and ferry/flight schedules. This is a very modern and large ferry so you needn%26#39;t worry about the ferry disasters that frequent the Philippines, invariably in smaller, order boats. This ferry is really an ocean liner.

Port Barton was very nice in 1995, a berautiful sweeping bay with just a few bungalows. Unless is been overdeveloped, it%26#39;s a very nice spot.

    Ling Yai

    Info on superferry:

www. superferry.com.ph liner sail once a week Coron – PP Saturdays Lv: 6:15 a.m. arr 7:00 p.m. (P1,177.19 tourist ticket with meals, PP-Coron on Sundays).

Negros Navigation currently does not have routes from Coron to PP.

Due to time constraints, we do not have a week to wait for a boat from Coron to PP.

We might consider an 8 hour banca ride from Coron to El Nido but due to the rough seas during the coming days, we%26#39;d rather not take the banca nor would bancas go out on rough weather.

It%26#39;s not easy to plan a Palawan trip due to transportation questions that seem to depend on the weather.

I still think we should have planned our trip in April or May when the weather is more favorable on both western and eastern side of the island.

For more info on Palawan, try to browse

    Dear Let%26#39;s go!!!,

Thanks for all the info. Very Kind. I%26#39;ve checked the weather %26amp; I%26#39;ve postponed the trip a weel later!! Hoping that the weather will be good.... We go at 18/02 for 20days. Is the weather usually like that? I thought that in Feb is FINE!!! (I mean no rain)Anyway, u never can be sure in tropics, right?

I have a small preplan....Arrive in Manila fly to Boracay (I dont want to but my friend wants it too much!!!) for 2-3 nights max %26amp; then fly to Palawan.

I%26#39;ve checked flying from Caticlan to El Nido but I can%26#39;t find any connection, right? So, I%26#39;ll fly to P.Princesa head to Sabang, do the river in total 3 days and then go to El nido. I would like to do by car as a day tour ???? %26amp; I%26#39;ll contact the art cafe3 to arrange it as u told me....

At this point we%26#39;ll have 12 days left %26amp; we r planning to spend in Bacuit Archipelago (I like this word as it is Greek %26amp; easy for me!! lol)+ Coron.

Finally flying out back to Manila from Busuanga.

    Any more suggestions???

Do u have any idea if euro exchange is as easy as dollars????

Any suggestion of a nice place/accomodation in El Nido?

    Thanks again for yr help.

your small plan is great - its now time to work out the details.
