Davao - Safe?

Hello!

I am thinking about going to Davao in May.

Questions -

1. How safe is Davao? I have been reading and heard things about terriorism, shooting, etc.

2. How%26#39;s Pearl Farm Resort? Good location? Safe?

3. How%26#39;s the weather in Davao during May (middle of May)?

Thanks in advance!!!

Davao - Safe?

have you heard about kidnapping for ransom in mindanao, where davao is?

have you heard about %26#39;vigilantes%26#39;?

mind you, theres probably a typhoon during May!

Davao - Safe?

I visisted Davao about a year ago.

I had no problems - zero, zilch.

Travelling by taxi to Philippine Eagle Centre (a must see), I similarly had no problems at all - except the friendliness of the locals if that%26#39;s a %26#39;problem%26#39;.

Some Western embassies including Australia have a lot to answer for in trying to scare their citizens from visiting enjoyable countries like the Philippines.

Of course miltants may be present in some outlying parts of Mindanao, but in most of it they are not.

You will be safe. Enjoy!

right now they have the Red Cross people in their hand, an Italian, a Swiss and a local. It may not be real to some but it is happening!

you are warned by your embassy and its up to you.

edwinic no offense meant but i dont know if you are based in manila or somewhere else. but you reminded me of those news reporters from manila based tv stations, whenever they are covering some events in parts of mindanao. it is common for them to say that they are reporting from mindanao.its funny because its just shows how ignorant they are about philippine geography.

this is a common perception of filipinos who grew up in the north(anything south of manila is bisaya or muslim) mindanao is a big place!! (its like a news reporter in Perth, saying he is reporting from Australia). lol!!worse they always have this cloth around their head just like arafat even though they%26#39;re only covering lanzones festival in camiguin.

davao is far from basilan or sulu archipelago(where those 3 red cross staff were abducted that edwinic mentioned. that part of mindanao is not advisable to be visited by tourists(just like south of thailand).

in fact zamboanga, the closest city to this troubled place is a good destination to visit. although you have to be smart just like any other big cities around the world. travel with caution and common sense.

DC or davao city as what they sometimes call it, has a lot to offer. if you%26#39;re in davao, don%26#39;t miss their durian ice cream. it smells like hell but tastes like heaven.

enjoy your trip to DC!!.

Fear is usually born out of ignorance.

If you%26#39;re ignorant of geography, and you think Sulu and Basilan (where the kidnappers are) are very close neighbors of Davao City, then you might have reason to fear being kidnapped while visiting Davao.

If you%26#39;re ignorant because you don%26#39;t read the details of news items and you don%26#39;t know that the ';vigilantes'; only target drug dealers and other low-life criminals, then you might fear being ';liquidated'; by the ';vigilantes'; while visiting Davao.

If you%26#39;re ignorant enough not to know that Davao City is outside the typhoon belt, then you might fear being hit by a typhoon in Davao City during the sunny month of May.

Fear is a good thing though. It keeps ignorant people away from Davao. That%26#39;s why it%26#39;s such a fun and enjoyable place to be in.

well, you can say anything you wish. at the end it is the touring individual who will decide.

its true that mindanao is big, but potential harm is not limited to Sulu and Basilan.

Is Davao safe? Sure!

Arent there bombing in Davao? Sure!
