Mobile phone use in Boracay

My friends and I will be staying in Boracay this summer and would like to use our mobile phones. They are all GSM and we wonder if its possible to buy a prepaid sim card in Boracay or but in Manila before we travel? Also is the network coverage any good? I assume it will work on the mainland after we leave Boracay. What costs would be involved? Any suggestions/ideas are always gratefully appreciated. Thanks.

People on Boracay use smoke signs....Joke aside - no problem to buy sim cards everywhere. Costs are the same as everywhere

Went to Boracay using my Smart SIM and it worked just fine all over the island. The coverage is pretty good with 5 bars all the time.

Thanks for the replies guys. Is it very expensive for call charges?

I was in the Philippines last year and bought a Sim Card in Kalibo(an hour from Boracay)for less than 100 PhP(approx.$2.00 USD).

As a matter of fact, the phone I used was a T-Mobile Prepaid Nokia mobile phone(Quad)and had it UNLOCKED before I left the U.S.

Be sure that your phone is unlocked(check with your provider in U.K.)or else, you can%26#39;t use any outside sim card at all.

Also, SMART Sim card(for minutes, etc.) seems to be the best one to use on Boracay and the mainland.

No need to go to Kalibo to buy sim cards. Dozens of stalls and shops sell all kind of sim cards from Smart, Globe and Sun on the island.

...and will unlock your phone if needed

i think you can also buy Sim cards at the International Airport on arrival, if you want to have one ASAP after landing.

Thats great guys. My/our phones are unlocked so no probs there. Thanks for the info once again.

welcome and enjoy your stay in this beautiful island boracay.....
