My whirlwind tour of Bacolod

My fiancee and I spent a day in Bacolod during August 2008 and we had a great time. It was my first visit to Bacolod. My fiancee was born and raised in Bacolod...and still lives there. We rented an air-conditioned van and a driver for the day ($70) and went sight-seeing around town. Here are some highlights of our day:

%26gt; Had lunch at Aboy%26#39;s Restaurant (near Goldenfield Commercial Center). Try the yummy blue marlin or the grilled bangus or the bicol express. The pinakbet was good too.

%26gt; Stopped by La Salle University which is located on La Salle Avenue.

%26gt; Enjoyed a break at Lagoon Park. The park is located just across the street from the majestic Capital Building of Negros Occidental.

%26gt; Toured the Negros Museum. Learned about the history of Negros during an interesting guided tour. Check out the hand-made arts and crafts at the museum. The tour was a real bargain ($1).

%26gt; Walked around Bacolod%26#39;s colorful Public Plaza in the heart of Bacolod. It is near the public market. We bought a large bouquet of fresh flowers for only around $4.

%26gt; Saw Bacolod%26#39;s famous San Sebastian Cathedral which is located across the street from the plaza...and only two blocks away from the SM Mall.

%26gt; Visited Rolling Hills Memorial Park Cemetery to our respects to my fiancee%26#39;s father.

%26gt; Enjoyed the famous Bacolod chicken inasal at the Chicken Deli on Lacson Street.

%26gt; Stayed overnight at the Sylvia Manor Hotel ($75). It is located just a few blocks from the plaza and downtown Bacolod.

I enjoyed my whirlwind tour of Bacolod. It left me wanting to return soon to see more of the sights and to taste more of their delicious food.

Wow. Great tour, really key places to see here around the city. Next time you visit, I recommend seeing the Ruins (structure left of a Spanish era mansion of a Filipino landowner located in the middle of a sugarcane plantation). It%26#39;s around 10 minutes away from Robinsons Mall. I also hope you got to see the famous Cementery at the middle of the street here in Bacolod.^^

My whirlwind tour of Bacolod

Hi tawidtayo...

Salamat for your reply. I enjoyed Bacolod very much. It was a nice change of pace compared to Manila. Next time, I want to spend more time in Bacolod because there is so much to see, and the people are so friendly. Also, I enjoyed the delicious food. My fiancee and I want to tour Negros by car some day. Bacolod would be a great place to begin our tour.

My fiancee and her mother visited the ruins last week. She emailed some photos to me. It is a magnificent sight. I would like to see a photo of the mansion before it was burned.

When my fiancee and I visited Boracay, we used Bacolod organic brown sugar every day in our coffee...yum yum.

I miss eating Bacolod chicken inasal. It is very tasty, and I love the sauce. I will give you the recipe that my fiancee uses to make this tasty sauce...

%26gt; Equal parts of fresh-squeezed calamansi juice and soy sauce.

%26gt; Half as much spicy vinegar.

This makes a wonderful dipping sauce. I found myself dipping everything in it...I even dipped my longganiza in this sauce during breakfast.

Ingat...
