Renaissance Makati (Marriott)

I will be in Manila a little over a week in February 2009. For most of the trip, I will be in Bohol and staying in the city of Muntinlupa. However, I wanted to spend a night at a nice hotel near Greenbelt on a Saturday night, so I thought of the Renaissance. A couple of years ago, I spent the weekend at Shangri-La and loved it, but too expensive when I checked online.

Any comments on the Renaissance? I am single in my 30s from the US.

The Renaissance is literally across Greenbelt, and unlike the Shang where you need to walk a bit and cross either by the elevated walkway through the crowded Landmark or cross a block away, right outside the door of the Renaissance is a pedestrian lane through the entrance of Greenbelt 3.

Though a lot of shops in GB3 has closed and moved to the newer Greenbelt5, it is in a much better location than Shang if your priority is to stay near Greenbelt.

Much quieter than Shang (whose Circles buffet is great but can be too crowded specially during weekends, and oh, Shang%26#39;s pool can be too crowded on a Saturday morning!!!), the Renaissance may be worth it, specially if the rate is much lower. Havent checked their poolside recently. There have been renovations last year in the lobby, the main restaurant has been spruced up a bit. Well, their standard rooms are a bit smaller than Shang%26#39;s or Pen%26#39;s, or even Mandarin%26#39;s and Dusit - now I%26#39;m just comparing the standard rooms ok. Nothing beats the facilities of Shang%26#39;s fitness center. But again, nothing would beat the location of Renaissance for a great night out in the Greenbelt area.

Thanks for the input!

What bars would you recommend to go to in the area? Restaurants?

Renaissance is pricey, too. It is an excellent facility, however. If Greenbelt is where you are headin, it is ideal and you could even walk.

Bars? What is your style and wants? Cafe Havana is an outdoor/indoor ex-pat hangout with alot of local flavor and good Latin music/dancing in Greenbelt. Most of the other places in Greenbelt are a younger crowd if you are in your 30%26#39;s.
