You can check out Lost Horizon Beach Resort. Its a beachfront resort along Alona Beach, Panglao. Very affordable. Clean rooms. Nice swimming pool. It accepts major credit cards. You can check the deals at their website. http://www.losthorizonresort.net/ While I%26#39;ve read complaints about their lazy/non-existent staff in this site we experienced none during our 4d/3n stay last month.

To help you plan your budget, here%26#39;s how our trip went:

DAY ONE:

Hired a local car service to fetch us from the airport upon arrival (9AM) and then off to Countryside Tour (Blood Compact Site, Baclayon Church, Loboc River Cruise with buffet lunch (try RIVERWATCH for food variety), Tarsier interaction, Bilar Manmade Forest (Mahogany Trees), Chocolate Hills, Hangging Bridge).

COSTS: 1800php for the car service(resorts charge 2000plus), 300php per person for the river cruise lunch, 25php per person entrance to Chocolate Hills, 20php++ ';donation'; to have pictures with a Tarsier perching on the hands, arms, shoulders and/or head(!). Tour ends by 5, driven to chosen resort/accommodation). TIP: Buy your souvenirs at Tarsier site or Hanging Bridge (tarsier keychains, magnets, cellfonebags) and Loboc River (for me, they have more unique t-shirt designs compared to the ones at Hinagdanan cave) - don%26#39;t forget to haggle(!). For Peanut Kisses, buy at Marcella Mall on day of departure(near airport) costs about 108php for a 20-pack bag. There%26#39;s also Calamay (sweet delicacy) sold for 30php or 40php - there%26#39;s an ambulant vendor selling that along Alona Beach(haggle and you might get it 3 for 100php), be sure to check the expiration date - usually 10 days.

DAY TWO:

AM - Swimming at the beach (best swimming spot would be at the leftmost side of the beach, - fine ';white'; sand).

PM - Tour of Hinagdanan Cave, Panglao Church, Dauis Church (it has a ';Well'; under the church altar thats said to have ';healing'; waters, have a bottle ready so you ask the caretaker to get some for you to drink or take home). Sunset dinner at Bohol Bee Farm (try the organic salad with edible flowers ; try their cassava bread with 3 different spreads; Vegetarian pizza, glass of sweet Bahalina wine)

COSTS: 800php for the car service. 15/person entrance to Hinagdanan Cave, Organic salad @ 160php solo, 400php family, Vegetarian Pizza (4 pieces) - 140(?)php; Bahalina wine 90(?)php per glass.

DAY THREE:

AM: Dolphin Watching with Balicasag Island Tour - Wake up at 5 for 6am dolphin watching (had 5 spottings). 8am snorkling (greater variety of fish than in Boracay, Puerto Galera or Palawan - bring an underwater camera) at Balicasag Island Marine Sanctuary with lunch.

COSTS: 1200php for the boat (others offered 1500-1800), plus 150/person for a smaller boat/banca for the snorkling (big boats cant go to shallow waters along the fish sanctuary), 700php for the seafood meal for 4 of grilled parrot fish, grilled squid and sinigang na lapu-lapu. TIP: bring your own mask %26amp; fin, they charge 150 to 200 per mask.

Check out the Firefly tour aboard a non-motorized boat (banca) along Loboc River after sunset (no flash photography please). Also check out Mag-aso Falls. Its a bit far (45mins. at least from Panglao) and the steps are long and tiring (going back up, that is) but worth the view and the dip.

For your meals in Alona Beach, Trudis Place offers afforable meals. For breakfast, nothing beats the 85php native/american breakfast at the sari-sari store next to Trudis Place. For seafood, Roderick %26amp; Vivien%26#39;s offers fresh crabs, mussels, lapu-lapu, parrotfish, squid, as well as pork barbeque, hotdog. Its located along Alona Beach, next to Oasis Resort. Hope this helps...

hibj08,your suggestions are very helpful. Can you please email me your contact for hired vehicle for tours? I%26#39;d like to know if he can accomodate our request for some changes in the usual itinerary, and the price,of course. Thanks.

I have received proposals for our Nov-Dec trip, and the V-hire is less than P3,000. My suggestion is for you to compile all proposals and get the best deal. You can get V-hire for P2,500 for more destinations.

where are you landing? what is your plan to get to bohol..? once you arrive there just hire a cab to get to get to panglao island..from the boat dock..once in panglao there are many different places to stay..the most modern nice ones used by divers all have safe deposits boxes..you can snorkel

right just off the beach or take a day trip to different islands..allots of boats available..allot of info..on the panglao island web sites..there are no banks on the island so exchange money before you arrive there..its a great beach,,nice night life..good food..

hello! hope im not too late to help u on ur pland vacation in bohol. i have a contact person there who wil arrange everything for u. u can txt or call him (rod balaba)@ 09185914969 for mur info.i can assure u that u can really save ur budget.

Hello! You didn%26#39;t say when is your planned trip, but just to give others also an idea, I%26#39;m posting this reply...I can%26#39;t say if the amount quoted to you by the travel agency is reasonable or not because you didn%26#39;t specify where you will be billeted at that price. I assume you are traveling only with your husband so you may find hibjo8%26#39;s tips very helpful. Anyway,my family just came from Bohol for a 4D/3N vacation so I can probably give you some additional tips.

If you inquire through travel agents, they will charge you on a per person basis. If you plan a do-it-yourself (DIY) trip, you can save more. We did just that. I researched through Trip Advisor and Virtual Tourist forum, and read blog reviews of real travelers. I canvassed rates and itinerary of V-hire, weighed the pros and cons of transacting business directly with them vs. travel agents. I was lucky to find a tour coordinator who charged me with V-hire rate, not on a per person basis. It proved to be cost-effective. I chose one who took time to text, email %26amp; chat thru YM to discuss my needs and expectations. I will send you a personal message re my chosen tour coordinator, as I don%26#39;t want to be misinterpreted as advertising.

For accomodation, I made the reservation myself. We stayed at Dumaluan Beach Resort2 in Panglao Island. My relatives stayed there and vouched for their good time, so their comments allayed my fears re unpleasant feedback given by some people in the forum. My family loved the place; it has a wide beachfront with live starfish in the shallow waters. It is also near the Bohol Beach Club where we strolled to view the sunset. We had Panglao Island tour on our first day so it was convenient to have our luggage deposited at the beach resort before we explored the island. We had lunch at Bohol Bee Farm, and dinner at Dumaluan Beach Resort.

We had dolphin watching and island hopping on the 2nd day. Dumaluan Beach Resort has its own boats for dolphin watching and snorkeling at Balicasag Island, but we didn%26#39;t avail of their tour package because it was more expensive (P2,500 boat rental + P150/person for guide at Balicasag + P150/snorkeling gear. We spent much, much less than that; my tour coordinator got me good boatmen/dolphin spotter for a good price. My daughter and grandson had a wonderful time snorkeling at the Marine Sanctuary. We bought fresh seafoods at Balicasag Island and had it cooked for us. We spent only a little over P800 for my family of 5 and 2 others (snorkeling guide %26amp; his friend). As a bonus, we even stopped by Virgin Island on the way back to Dumaluan.

We transferred to Tagbilaran City and stayed at Dao Bed %26amp; Breakfast, a quiet place very near downtown. The next day,we started early (7am) for our Half-Bohol Island Tour (combined city %26amp; countryside tour).

Our destination was tailored-fit for our needs. We skipped the python, butterfly sanctuary and other places we dind%26#39;t fancy going. My tour coordinator is very reasonable and hospitable. As a token of gratitude,we recommend him to our family and friends. I will send you a private message re his contact nos. and email.

Hope you have a good time.

hi there!

i really love how tripadvisor is able to help tourists and vacationists like us. it was also here that i got the number of the guy who took care of our tour there in bohol last summer.

i contacted philip. he is a local of tagbilaran city and he took care of everything during our stay there. he suggested our hotel accomodation. and took care of our itinerary. he gave us a countryside tour and took us snorkeling and whale watching in balicasag and panglao.

I%26#39;m not sure if you%26#39;ll still be able to go whale watching; dolphin watching, yes, you%26#39;ll have a great chance of seeing them as long as you get the proper boatman and spotter.

We learned that whales are rarely sighted there because dolphins ';gang up'; on them. Whales usually swim alone, not in groups like the dolphin so they easily fall prey to the bites and nodging of dolphins.

You%26#39;ll have to travel to the deeper part of the sea if you really want to see a whale in that region...better chances to see whales in the Bicol Region.

Our boatman and dolphin spotter were recommended to us by our tour coordinator. I already sent l0venature a PM how to contact him.

Lest I be misconstrued, I have to clarify... The whales are rarely spotted in the part of the sea we went to, enroute Balicasag Island. However, if you prefer seeing whales more than dolphins, we were told that there are more whales at the part of the sea enroute Pamilacan Island.
