Trikes

How noisy are the trikes on Boracay? I have not been there for 6 years and there were no trikes back then.

Trikes

there were trikes there 6 years ago. they are noisy but mostly confined to the main road.

Trikes

Of course there were trikes 6 years ago!!!

I first visited Boracay in 1991. I know that there are many others around who can quote earlier dates, but that%26#39;s mine. My memory from 1991 is that there were no trikes. Zero. Not one. It was wonderful.

I came here to live in 1996. There were way too many trikes by then. Dirty. Noisy. Smelly. Worse than the trikes themselves, though, were the trike drivers.

Now, of course, it is much worse.

Boracaybill is correct: no tricycles in 1991. Maybe a handfull of motorbikes. Transportation was mainly by foot with no noise, cellphones, radios, karaokes, etc. To hear moderate loud music you had to go to the old Beachcomber or Sand Bar. Same with cold beers = not readily available. Tricycles proliferated by the end of the 90%26#39;s and numbers are growing. In 2002 the municipal council created an ordinance to limit the number of tricycles and not to approve any new applications. A little lobbying by the tricycle group, a reminder that in a year elections are coming up, made the resolve of the political leaders disappear and the ordinance was amended. Since then the number of motorized vehicles on the island is growing exponential.

It shows that I did drink too many San Migs. not to notice trikes. We stayed at the ill fated Michelles Bungalows. It was a top spot. In we 88 stayed at Lorenzos near Sundowner Restaurant. My fondest memories are that we walked everywhere and that is what made it so special. I have read of the road and that disappoints me. Hope to be there this year.
