i went to the philippines on Dec 23 2008 handcarrying my laptop and so are some of the other passengers.

No, no one bothered. No need to worry unless you are bringing in 3 units.

It%26#39;s for personal use, so you shouldn%26#39;t be taxed. I brought mine in from the US (where I bought it) and they didn%26#39;t even bother .

You shouldn%26#39;t have to worry about your laptop. I%26#39;ve travelled back to the Philippines a couple times last year with NO hassle or problem.

Laptops are so common that I don%26#39;t think customs or immigrations officials care if its for personal use.

Not to worry.. I%26#39;ve brought in two at one time. One packed in my regular suitcase, the other in my hand carry.

Immigration officials/airline personnel take the attitude of as part of your travel necessities, i.e. camera, cellphone, ipod.

Enjoy....:-)

no, u will not be taxed. hand carrying it means that its for your personal use.

While you definitely shouldn%26#39;t be taxed, just remember to be wary of the customs people at the airport. They will try to intimidate you into bribing them, even if you are not doing anything wrong. It%26#39;s sad to say, but the system just appears to be corrupt that way. They hint by saying things like, ';oh, you have a lot'; or ';did you go shopping a lot'; or if they open your suitcase, point to something and say ';i like this'; or ';this looks good'; (food). And if they bring up your laptop (which they most likely won%26#39;t, but on the off chance that something happens), just state that no, it%26#39;s not new, it%26#39;s for personal use.
