Shopping in Greenhills

Hi All,

I am travelling to Manila for a couple of days in February and was wondering what prices were like for shopping?

I am happy to buy copy stuff like polo%26#39;s, shirts etc....

Also can you buy copied DVD%26#39;s at Greenhills or is there a better place to get them. How much as they?

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Shopping in Greenhills

it depends where you are staying in manila. if you are staying in ortigas/ pasig area then greenhills shopping mall will be ok. u can get pirated CDs at P50/pc just have it tried if it is working well. in greenhills you can shop for tshirts/ polo shirts/ electronic goods...

if you are staying in malate area - you can visit quiapo for cds. but beware coz they might take advantage of you since ur a foreigner.

Shopping in Greenhills

This is true. Even I%26#39;m Filipino, but my Tagalog is limited and with an ';accent'; (I was raised in the US), I could not bargin with the people in Greenhills. I tried to get fake Havaianas flip-flops for P150 that the vendor was asking P250, but the lady would not haggle with the price when she kind of figured out I was from the US. I sent my wife who was at another booth at the time (she was born and raised in the Philippines), to the same booth and she got them for P100 from the same lady I was dealing with.

I know that we were only talking a small difference between P250 and P100 when you convert, but that%26#39;s not the point here.

Definitely have a local go with you when in Greenhills as foreigners are quoted a different price. And remember to haggle and walk away when not quoted the same price. Also I like to go early in Greenhills (around 10 am) as it%26#39;s not as crowded and the sellers offer more discounts since you%26#39;re going to end up as the first customer.

Cds - Php50 (not much variety in Ghills though, check out St Francis Square in Ortigas)

Polo shirts - minimum Php500

Shirts - minimum Php250

pants - min Php500

tennis shoes - min Php 300

leather shoes - min Php 500

You can buy copy bags and almost copy of anything in Greenhills. Prices will be higher and at times hard to bargain since the vendors know that majority of buyers are tourists. Almost each and every stall will have the same price. As you walk, there will be men murmuring ';DVD,DVD';. Yes, they sell DVD%26#39;s, but there is no monitor where you can watch it. Most fake DVD%26#39;s are defective so it is best to try them out. I buy in 168, where you can try out everything and kafe items are a lot cheaper, but you might not be comfortable going there since you are a foreigner. If you really have to buy in Greenhills, I suggest you go when the stall owners are there since the salespeople are not very flexible when it comes to prices. buy fake DVD%26#39;s somewhere else, not in GH.

Before you decide on buying pirated CD%26#39;s and DVD%26#39;s, please check the prices of non-pirated available in well known malls.

Compare it with your (Australian) local price.

Non-pirated are testable and returnable if defective.

ALWAYS go with a local. A local that you already know, not someone who will introduce himself/herself to you in the hotel to accompany you shopping. Those people will even ask you to buy for them. if you have a friend in the Philippines, ask them to go with you. It is the only way to bargain. Sometimes bargaining takes up most of your energy since these salespeople are so scared of the stall owners. That%26#39;s why I try to go when most stall owners are there.

what time are the stall aowners are usually there?

The stall owners are usually there in the afternoon.

hi,

would you happen to know if the stores there sell affliction. Ed Hardy or Tap out shirts.

thanx

I know they sell Ed Hardy shirts so they might have the others. A stall called Lucky Sisters and FRM have a lot of these kind. You really have to bargain or go with a local friend. I am saying friend because most foreigners go with locals they meet around their hotels. I see and hear that these locals even talk to the stall salespeople to give them a cut! That is really low, so be careful or you can bargain yourself. Good luck. If you do not know a single soul in Manila and you REALLY have to go to GH, please let me know. If I am in the Phil and free, I will haggle for you. A little harder to do in GH, but one can always try. 168 has still the best prices for me, but it might be too far for some.
